Welcome to the biggest port in Africa !

After completing the Tangiers Med 1 port complex, Bouygues Travaux Publics and Bymaro (subsidiaries of BouyguesConstruction) are now constructing a new container port terminal consisting ofa main breakwater of 3,800 metres and a secondary breakwater of 1,200 metres, 2,800 m of quays and a 150-hectare logistics area. Thebreakwaters will primarily be constructed with the use of precast four-lobed caissons and piled up rocks protected by Accropodes^TM. The technique of caissons presents a number of advantages: it greatly decreases the environmental impact of the project as it reduces both the footprint of the project and reduces the volumes of materials used.

When completed, Tangiers Med 2will provide two container terminals offering additional capacity of 5.2million 20-feet containers. The quays will be capable of berthing seven megacontainer ships simultaneously.

The overall port capacity ofTangiers will ultimately stand at 8 million containers, 7 million vehicles,700,000 trucks and 10 million tonnes of hydrocarbons. By 2014 it will rankas one of the foremost port platforms in the Mediterranean and Africa.

Works began in the firstquarter of 2010 and will last roughly four and a half years.
