A cross-company R&D programme
Bouygues Construction research and innovation work is directed and coordinated by an R&D Committee. Its role is to define cross-company research subjects, to strengthen the innovation culture, and to capitalise on knowledge between entities. It chooses the priority topics and determines the responsible parties, the budgets, deliverables and the timetable.
Present research focuses on the following topics:
• Sustainable construction: creation of an index called Projection which makes it possible to evaluate housing operations in terms of sustainable development and overall cost, using dedicated software; positive energy consumption housing, pro-environmental products and equipment, etc.
• Productivity, robotisation and ergonomics: development of a number of demonstrators prior to application in
the field including planing and drilling robots; acoustic measurements and ergonomic design studies for housing.
• Virtual construction: testing collaborative working software and processes on 3-D models.
• Standard and post-tensioned concrete: a joint research programme with Lafarge on the use of insulating concrete in facades; optimisation of concrete durability and shuttering times; production of a full-scale sample of concrete post-tensioning for EPR applications.
• Computerised production: development of a plotter and a measurement tool for monitoring data of buildings and bridges.
• Tunnels and geotechnical applications: application of instrumented disk cutters on tunnel boring machines; new techniques of soil freezing; real-time measurements of tunnel settling.
• Electricity and telecoms: patent filed for a concrete VHV pylon; development of a structural inspection drone, through a partnership.
