Thermedia 0.6 B structural insulating concrete

Thermedia 0.6 B is the first product in a new range of insulating concrete to emerge from a partnership between Lafarge and Bouygues Construction that was set up in 2006. An innovative response to the demand for improved energy efficiency in buildings, it substantially reduces the amount of heat escaping through facades.

Bouygues Construction has a two-year market exclusivity for Thermedia 0.6 B.

As part of its commitment to sustainable construction, Bouygues Construction joined with Lafarge in developing Thermedia 0.6 B, a material intended for building envelopes. With no loss in mechanical strength, its specific mix design (which has been patented) divides thermal conductivity by three compared to a standard concrete, significantly limiting heat losses in buildings. As such, the new material provides an alternative solution to thermal bridge breakers, both in both technical and economic terms. It removes the need to adapt the most frequently used building systems, which integrate interior thermal insulation. Thermedia 0.6 B also gives architects greater scope.

Lafarge will not market Thermedia 0.6 B until September 2011, following a two-year period of market exclusivity for Bouygues Construction which will give the Group a genuine competitive edge.

An earlier collaboration between Lafarge and Bouygues Construction some years ago resulted in the development of Ductal® ultra-high strength fibre-reinforced concrete.
