From 1987 till 1992, Bouygues Construction built the Hassan II mosque in Casablanca. With its 200-m-high minaret whose dome crowned by a 16-m jamur is equipped with a laser beam visible from a distance of 40 km, the Great Hassan II Mosque is currently the highest religious edifice in the world. The mosque building of 200 m x 100 m x 60 m is topped by a 2,400-sq m opening roof and houses prayer halls accommodating up to 25,000 people. Another two mezzanine prayer halls, at the sides, accommodate up to 5,000 people and are reserved for women.
