Convention Center – 1997

The new Hong Kong conference centre, the Convention Center, is built on a seven hectare site reclaimed from the sea facing the Wanchai exhibition centre. This 65 m tall building, crowned by the largest dished roof in the world, has a surface area of 166,000 m² and six floor levels, three exhibition halls, 60 meeting rooms and a 4,300 place auditorium. A glazed atrium crosses the inlet and links the old town to the new centre. Delivered on 2 June 1997, it hosted the ceremony for the transfer of Hong Kong’s sovereignty to China. Bouygues Bâtiment International then built AsiaWorld-Expo, Hong Kong’s largest exhibition centre. Bouygues Construction also operates the centre.
